Museum Rooms

Two museum centres within the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon are now open to the public: the “Professor Marcello Caetano Room-Museum” and the “Professor Paulo Cunha Room-Museum”.

The room dedicated to Professor Marcello Caetano, set up in 2006, was the result of a partnership between the Master’s family, the Faculty of Law and the Silva Dias Architecture Atelier. Occupying an area of around 30 square metres, it displays books, manuscripts, personal objects, academic robes and decorations from various countries (Portugal, Spain, Germany, England, Belgium and Brazil).

Particularly significant is the section on Brazil, the country that Marcello Caetano always considered his second homeland and where he died in 1980. After leaving Portugal following the 25 April 1974 Revolution, Marcelo Caetano moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he was an Honorary Professor at the Federal University. He was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Federal Universities of Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and U.E.G. .

You can see various honours awarded to Professor Marcelo Caetano by several Brazilian universities, as well as copies of works he wrote in exile that have only been published in Brazil (for example, the two-volume Manual of Constitutional Law, one of which is dedicated to Brazilian Constitutional Law).
